What a Year Aboard Never Two Late

As the year draws to a close, we’ve been taking a moment to reflect on life aboard Never Two Late — and what a year it’s been.

It didn’t quite turn out how we’d imagined in terms of cruising. We spent far more time than planned waiting for the boat to be blacked, a process that, if we’re honest, didn’t go as smoothly or turn out as we’d hoped. Add to that the driest summer in years and the resulting lack of water on the canals, and our travel plans had to be adjusted more than once.

But despite all of that, we still loved our time aboard.

Living on the cut has a way of reminding you that it’s not always about how far you travel, but about how you live while you’re there. We shared laughs, stories, cups of tea, and evenings with some truly amazing people — friendships old and new that remind us exactly why we chose this lifestyle in the first place.

One of the standout moments of the year was being featured on Channel 4’s Narrow Escapes. It was such a surreal and exciting experience, and we’re still incredibly grateful to have been part of it.

Our YouTube vlog, Never Two Late – Our Journey, has continued to grow slowly and steadily, and honestly, the very best part has been meeting so many of you — our lovely followers — out on the towpaths and in the towns and villages along the way. Those real-life chats, waves, and smiles mean more to us than any numbers ever could.

Steve has been busy creating some truly beautiful coin jewellery this year, pieces that have now found their way to homes all around the world. Maxine has continued writing, pouring thoughts and experiences onto the page, and keeping her running bug alive — proving once again that movement, fresh air, and determination go a long way for both body and mind.

And of course, Mexi is still very much living her best life — chasing moorhens whenever she gets the chance and proudly collecting sticks on our walks, no matter how big (or impractical) they might be.

Looking ahead to the coming year, we’re feeling hopeful and excited. We’re looking forward to new adventures on both new waters and familiar ones, and we’re hoping to do some pop-up shops along the way so we can meet even more of you in person.

Thank you for being part of our journey — whether you watch, read, comment, wave from the towpath, or stop for a chat.

We wish you all a wonderful 2026, and we look forward to catching up with many of you along the waterways very soon.
